Story: Edward(Johnny Depp) is not a man, he is an invention. His creator dies before he could give Edward hands and so Edward has scissors for hands. A kind lady, Peg(Dianne Wiest) discovers Edward, alone in his castle and brings him to her home in the city. At first, everyone welcomes Edward Scissorhands for the unique talent he has, but things take a wrong turn with Edward falling into trouble time and again. Edward eventually falls in love with Peg’s daughter, Kim(Winona Ryder) and together they face all the atrocities a jealous town has to offer. The movie ends on a beautiful note, bound to bring tears in the hardest of hearts.

Climax Handling: The end is well crafted and deeply moving, with a hauntingly melodious background score.

Points: Excellent story and execution, superb direction, deeply emotional performances in a movie that has all the elements of a classic.

Rating: 9.5/10

Comment: Johnny Depp is at his best here, in this modern day fairytale; this movie is a piece of art, a masterpiece which brings out the dark side of human behavior and is a sad tale of gifted disability and the failure of humans in understanding it. DON’T MISS IT!

Story: Rémy is a rat who lives with his family has a exceptionally discerning sense of smell is a huge admirer of Auguste Gusteau who is the top chef in France. One day, Rémy gets separated from his family and ultimately reaches Gusteau’s restaurant wherein he sees a young guy, Alfredo Linguini, with no culinary skills messing up a dish. Alfredo works in the restaurant as his deceased mother used to work there earlier. Rémy helps him correct the dish and thus Linguini is saved from being fired. Rémy and Linguini thus come up with an alliance and by controlling Linguini’s movements Rémy helps his cook food at the restaurant. The current owner Skinner somehow wants Linguini out of the picture as he is Gusteau‘s son and the actual owner of the restaurant. Rémy gets hold of it and gives it to Linguini. In the mean time, Rémy reunites with his family who ask him not to help humans as they sabotage rodents. Linguini and Rémy get into a fight and Rémy returns back to his family and plan to raid the kitchen. A demanding food critic makes a pre-announced visit to the restaurant and Linguini is helpless. Rémy with his family goes to his rescue and both together are able to impress the critic and revive the lost glory of the restaurant which was the main reason for Gusteau’s death.

Points: A sub-surface light scattering technique was used on the food items. Jan Pivaka has done an excellent job of designing the characters. Even a person who does not like animated movies should love it.

Story: Jane has been bridesmaid 27 times. She pushes herself to any extent to help her friends who get married and can never say no to anybody and is so lost in that that she dosent give herself time.She strongly believes in “marriage” and one day hopes to marry a wonderful person. Kevin, who writes the Commitments Page for the Newyork City Journal, acts like a total cynic but secretly loves the concept of two people tying the knot. Jane loses the one man she loves, George, to her spoilt baby sister because of her over-sweet nature. Tess lies to George about her self and they fall in love and decide to get married. Kevin and Jane get together and begin to like each other just when Jane finds out that Kevin has written ridiculous article about her titled “The Perpetual Bridesmaid”. Also she reveals to George about how Tess has lied to him about herself and George calls off his wedding with Tess. Jane on the other hand realizes that she is in love with Kevin and gets back with him. One year later, Kevin and Jane get married and Jane is overwhelmed with joy as her 28th dress is a wedding dress.

Climax: Its touchy and hilarious at the same time as 27 friends of the bride dress in ridiculously comic bridesmaid clothes which the bride wore for their wedding.

Points: Mostly will interest the female audience as it is sappy and romantic.

Reasons not to: No flamboyant experiments by Spielberg who lets the simplicity call the shots

Storyline: Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks) has just arrived from Krakozhia in JFK Airport, and is told that the USA doesn’t recognize his country owing to recent coup there and volatile political situations. So he is left stranded on the airport, between a scheming administrator Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci) and a flight attendant Amelia Warren (Catherine Zeta-Jones). How he survives, without the knowledge of English, making the airport his home, and helping people on the way and whether he makes it back to his country is what this story of the human spirit all about.

Climax Handling: There is no climax in the true sense of the word and the story eases into an end leaving you emotionally moved.

Points: A simplistic tale delving into the goodness of human spirit, how this surpasses language and culture. Also the importance of honour, beauty, meaning and sacrifice in life.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Comment: One of Tom Hanks’ sweetest performances and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a stunningly simple avatar, The Terminal might just leave tears in your eyes.
